Community Coaching and ConditioningFetac Level 5 Major Award in Community Coaching & Conditioning

Learners must complete the following eight modules. Learners will be required to provide skills demonstrations, pass examinations and compile collections of work for the different subjects. Note: these modules may be subject to change and are in no specific order:

  • Sports & Recreation
  • Exercise & Fitness
  • Work Experience
  • Team Working
  • Anatomy & Physiology
  • Health & Safety
  • Word Processing
  • Communications


To achieve the major award candidates must achieve a minimum pass grade in all 8 modules.

On successful completion of the major award, candidates will be able to apply through the CAO system, or directly to FE colleges for entry into further education. Candidates will also acquire the knowledge to go directly into the recreation and leisure industry.

Throughout the course learners will also receive multiple coaching awards from various National Governing bodies (also the internationally recognised ITEC Level 3 Gym Instructor Certificate).

Previous Graduates

Previous graduates of the course who have progressed directly into employment have found jobs in various sectors, including:

Further Education

Graduates have also progressed onto further education. We are pleased to have established links to the Level 6 Personal Trainer and Leisure Management course at Bray Institute of Further Education. Other courses currently being attended by GYTI graduates include Sports Science in the University of Limerick, Business Management in Sport & Recreation and also Exercise & Health, both at Waterford IT. We also have students doing BSc (Hons) Strength & Conditioning at Carlow IT. Students have also progressed to other unrelated courses in Media Studies, Hair & Beauty, Social Studies and Childcare.
