Gorey Training Initiative logoGorey Training Initiative (GTI) is a Community based training initiative funded by WWETB. We are now in our tenth year and we continue to grow and develop with increasing numbers of students progressing into employment and further studies. We offer real life experience through our work experience module and our close working ties to sport & business in the community.  Subject to funding, we will be recruiting for one QQI Level 4 courses starting in September 2024 one in Community Coaching and Conditioning. It is hoped that this will lead to a corresponding QQI Level 5 course the following year. Expression of Interest forms and more information can be found at the bottom of this page (please note the information on each course currently relates to the current Level 5 course, but the Level 4 course will have similar content, but at the lower level. These pages will be updated once funding is secured).

Entry requirements

The following is a list of entry requirements for the course:

  • Unemployed
  • In receipt of a social welfare payment
  • Aged between 17-35yrs (this has been relaxed to include anyone up to the age of 60)
  • Have a reasonable level of written and verbal communication skills
  • Be willing to be part of a team
  • Have an interest in the subject area
  • Be committed to a 38 week full-time course
  • A desire to progress to further education or enter employment
  • This course is open to all ethnic and social backgrounds.

The courses contain a mix of practical and theory based subjects and are designed to help students develop an understanding of the respective industry sectors (Leisure & Computer). Students will be supported by dedicated and experienced tutors and the centre provides:

  • Literacy assistance
  • Numeracy assistance
  • IT Support
  • Careers Guidance
  • Counselling
  • Mentoring
  • Mental Health Awareness programme (Grow)
  • Drug & Alcohol Awareness programme

COVID-19

We thankfully returned to full time in classroom teaching in February 2022 and it is hoped that this will continue to be the case, although there is still the possibility of a hybrid experience of online and ‘in-centre’. No firm timetable has been established as yet for the courses starting in September and the modules may be subject to change.
