Courtown Local Training Initiative is a community based training initiative funded by WWETB.

The first pilot program started in January 2018. Offering a full time training program ‘Pathway to employment’. The centre grew to a second premises in 2019 which is a workshop for all the practical training.

We have a NEW program starting in January 2021. ‘Employability skills’. A full time level three QQI award.

This program is aimed at learners aged 17+ who have left school early, not completed their education or are in receipt of social welfare. There are eighteen places on the program.

The program offers learners the chance to explore a wide range of modules in a relaxed supported environment. Classes are blended with a practical ethos designed to allow learners to express themselves and gain skills that will enable them to progress to further education or gain a pre apprenticeship qualification.

Modules include:

Workshop modules:

    • Floor & wall tiling
    • Paint & decorating
    • Engineering workshop skills
    • Manual arc welding
    • Craft glass

New Hair and beauty modules:

    • Blow drying hair
    • Nails
    • Personal care and presentation

Core modules:

    • Personal & interpersonal skills
    • Career preparation
    • Functional maths

Computer modules:

    • Computer literacy
    • Desktop publishing
    • Internet skills

 

As well as the above modules, further supports are available for the learners which include, retention of social welfare payment, tutor support, guidance via regular individual learner plans, literacy support, numeracy support and counselling support.
